Bubble Fur

Mon, November 26, 2007 - 11:09 AM by Unsubsc...

Anyone have an idea of where this stuff comes from (who invented it)? It looks like it could be hard to sew with and might possibly cause MOOP (although I saw plenty of people at Burning Man 2007 with it). Any ideas of how long this stuff has been around and how hard/ easy it is to work with?

hey just,
it's not very hard to sew with, i'd rate it as easier than long pile fur but trickier than the same length regular (non-bubble) fur. it moops about the same level as regular funfur -- a lot while you're working with it, but once it's finished, hardly any moop. i've been seeing it around for about 4 years now -- you can find heaps of it at the big fabric stores, in SF there's mission/17th, discount fabrics on haight or 4th streets, and it's all over LA fashion district.

happy sewing :)

It looks so wierd so I kind of wonder who invented it.

If it's the stuff I think it is, you'll probably want to line it.. it's on a mesh background & is pretty sheer for a fur....

good point - the areas in between the bubbles are pretty sheer -- if you're going for warmth, i would line it or wear it over something. it is pretty warm, but it doesn't really keep the wind out.

I bought some hot pink and dark purple bubble fur for a coat and got some really cool black fleece material with different color/sized polka dots on it so it will show through the areas of the coat where it's sheer.
