Anyone have a solution of something I can line the cuff part of the legwarmer with that will keep it from slipping down off of the wearer when he/she walks? One suggestion I had seen in another tribe thread was to use a rubber cuff that one attaches on the inside of the cuff. Unfortunately, unlike that thread, the legwarmer in question is made of an actual fabric.
Right now, Im just making my legwarmers out of felt fabric as I test some techniques, so Im open to different ideas. Ribbon? A stronger leather cord (I did try this but the leather cord I bought was too flimsy)??

Re: Felt Leggies -- Stop Slipping!
Tue, October 13, 2009 - 4:28 AMthis is gonna be hard to explain in words, or maybe not:
take a pair of stretch cotton/lycra blend leggings (most walmart or target brand leggings)
cut off the ankle of the legging. it is not usually elastic, but rather a relatively small piece of cotton lycra with stitching around it.
take this small ring of legging and whip-stitch by hand onto the inside upper edge of the slipping leggy (the part that sits around your upper calf/knee area)
this should stop slippage
alternative: get a strip of metallic spandex (very grippy, can be found at syfabrics.com) and sew it around the inside edge as described above WITH THE METALLIC SIDE TOWARD WEARER'S SKIN....

Tue, October 13, 2009 - 8:30 AMUse what they use for thigh-high stockings. There's a rubber ribbon that you can buy at the fabric store. You attach it to your leg warmers with a long loose zigzag stitch, on the upper inside so that it grips the skin. -

Tue, October 13, 2009 - 1:22 PMCan rubber ribbon be sewn in the zig zag with a machine or do i need to do this by hand? Leggies are great but they can really drive you nuts on getting them ot stay put without the help of garters. -

Re: Felt Leggies -- Stop Slipping!
Tue, October 13, 2009 - 10:09 PMMachine sew it, honey! Set your stitch width to @ 3 to 3.5 and your stitch length fairly short, like 1.75 to 2. That'll give you enough give in the thread so that you're not constantly popping your stitches when you pull them on. -

Tue, October 13, 2009 - 10:12 PMOh, another idea -- load your bobbin with the thinnest elastic thread they sell -- and that'll give you even more stitch pop insurance. Don't try to thread your needle with it, though.

Re: Felt Leggies -- Stop Slipping!
Tue, October 13, 2009 - 2:47 PMA friend of mine makes industrial-strength garters with mitten clips. For furry legwarmers that end below the knee, I do something really super-simple: I take a shoestring (actually parachute cord, but it looks like a shoestring) that matches the fur and tie it tight right below my knee. It was supposed to be a temporary solution for the first pair I made until I could add elastic, but it worked so well, that's just what I do now. It's comfy, it rarely falls down because there's no stretch, and it's easy.
