I have an idea for an outfit but some parts would involve merely attaching ribbon type fabric to my body sans any clothing. Any way that this can be done using a prosthetic glue (Spirit Gum? Medical Adhesive?). Obviously it would have to be good at melding fabric type material to the skin long enough for an outing, but not flake (hence causing MOOP).
A fleshtone bodysuit is an option but the way that the overall costume is constructed could create some support issues so if I can apply these ribbons to a mostly nude body, that would be better.

Re: Playa Friendly Prosthetic Glue - NO MOOP
Thu, July 2, 2009 - 10:54 AMI don't know of any adhesive that would stand an outing on the playa. Sweat, wind, dust, bumpin and grindin...
Maybe tie the ribbons on with fishing line.
My mom has an old net type suit with feathers hanging off it from the 60s.
Maybe you could make net like garments out of the fishing line and hang the ribbons from that. -

Thu, July 2, 2009 - 11:30 AMHmm.....fishnet might be hard to attach ribbons onto since it can often tear. Mosty the ribbons will go on my shoulders. I dont have a necklace that I could rig fishing wire to right now. :( -

Thu, July 2, 2009 - 11:58 AMC'mon. It can't be that hard.
Tieing ribbons to your naked body?
C'mon. -

Thu, July 2, 2009 - 12:32 PMI'm in the theatre and have used spirit gum for a lot of things. It will hold up under the heat of the lights and everything. You'll want to make sure that you get some remover as well. Just dip a q-tip in the remover and kind of move it under whatever you're putting on. Sometimes it's a little hard to get off, but it really works great! -

Re: Playa Friendly Prosthetic Glue - NO MOOP
Thu, July 2, 2009 - 1:01 PMYeah. NOrmally when I do full face prosthetics (off playa), I find myself using medical adhesive which gives me long lasting time (since I do many hours in costume and dont want it to get messed up and retouched if I can help it). I dont know if anyone has used it on playa. I dont mind if it takes some finagling to get off of me.

Re: Playa Friendly Prosthetic Glue - NO MOOP
Thu, July 2, 2009 - 3:42 PMYipe! No way. Hehehe. I mean, there has to be some wy of doing it. At this point, a necklace that the fishing wire runs through is the backup but I just wanted to try it the glue method if possible. Thanks for all the suggestions. I care more about mooping the playa since I have been used to long term wear. :)

Re: Playa Friendly Prosthetic Glue - NO MOOP
Thu, July 2, 2009 - 6:46 PMI know a woman who staples EL wire to herself... I don't know how prone to infection staple wounds would be, and I'm certainly not ever going to try it, but she's says it's not as painful as it looks... Stays put, anyway.

Re: Playa Friendly Prosthetic Glue - NO MOOP
Sat, July 11, 2009 - 9:36 AMI only discovered this a few months ago so I haven't tried it on the playa yet, but maybe Flash Tape would work? (www.greatglam.com/pd_flash_tape.cfm) I could never get any liquid glue to work properly out there.

Re: Playa Friendly Prosthetic Glue - NO MOOP
Sat, July 11, 2009 - 11:11 AMI have found that medical adhesive will hold up to many hours of sweat and movement. Just remember to get the skin really clean first, and don't forget the solvent! That stuff can take your skin off.

Re: Playa Friendly Prosthetic Glue - NO MOOP
Sat, July 11, 2009 - 12:19 PMIs medical adhesive the same thing as crazy glue? Crazy glue and nail polish remover. -

Re: Playa Friendly Prosthetic Glue - NO MOOP
Sat, July 11, 2009 - 12:24 PMMedical adhesive is even more intense than crazy glue. Got some at a theatrical store.
Reading the ingredients on the remover, though, acetone is among them. Nail polish remover would probably work, too. -

Sat, July 11, 2009 - 1:37 PMI've used eyelash glue to attach costume parts to my body in the past, and it worked quite well on the playa. :-) -

Re: Playa Friendly Prosthetic Glue - NO MOOP
Sat, July 11, 2009 - 2:29 PMIf you're prone to copious amounts of sweat (as am I), eyelash glue just doesn't cut it. I've learned I just can't wear eyelashes on the Playa, or even anywhere, since they all wind up giving up the ghost after 4 or 5 hrs of dancing.
