Un-burnerly to sell burn clothes in Reno?

So, don't crucify me yet, I'm wondering if it is wrong to set up a stand in Reno before the burn to sell costume apparel? Yeah yeah- if you have to ask, it might be, but I am kind of torn. I'd love to take it all in and be part of the gifting community inside, but I also need to afford this trip out. I've found myself with an OVERabundance of fake furs/vinyl/etc. and materials to make the utility belts I've been making for friends, and am thinking if I bring it all to Reno and set up a stand I may have some luck. Any thoughts on this?

It wouldn't piss ME off. Yeah burners gift a lot, but we also buy alot too! Some friends here in my hood just had a costume "garage sale" with some tasty treats for everyone. For a price of course, yet also reasonable. So you could try that also. but go ahead & try your luck in Reno.

Anything can happen. Anything DOES happen & everything WILL happen!

    Cheers!

personally, i dont see how it's different from all the other merchants out there hawking their wares at the various events throughout the year (myself included)
only word of caution - you may need a permit to set up on a corner, streetside, or any other similar area - cities, counties, states, feds etc seem to like to have their cut when money moves from one hand to another
you may or may not get that many customers tho - the pre-playa burners i know typically dont have tons of money left for extras

That's a really good point. By the time I'm on my way there, I've packed all my stuff, the car's stuffed to the gills, and I'm pretty much flat broke in terms of Burning Man spending $, except for pocket cash for ice.

Yeah I was thinking that most people wouldn't have the money, so am also considering an Etsy-style shop for pre-purchase. I will have to check on the laws, maybe even see if the gas station that everyone stops at en route would be willing to let me set up there. I know last year they had vendors. And also, to be fair, during burn season (mainly at Tfus Alchemy and BM) I do make and give away about 50 handmade costumes, so I don't feel too bad about making a profit on some ;) I will look around and see what the best option is and if I do make an online store perhaps I can link it here- and even offer a little playalicious discount :)
