Hey playlicious folks,
Haven't been on tribe for a while. Has everyone moved on (or out, as the case may be)? If so, where are people migrating to?
Looks like me & my friends are heading to the playa again for 2009. I'm getting into steampunk these days, so less fur for me, and more brass and leather.

Re: Whassup for 2009?
Sun, June 14, 2009 - 10:45 PMTribe is a lot thinner then it used to be, judging by the numerous older posts. Some folks may have gone Facebook but I think that's a really bad idea. I'll stick with Tribe even though, like Burning Man itself, it makes me feel like I got involved late and missed the fun that comes with jumping into something exciting and new.

Mon, June 15, 2009 - 9:51 AMI'll be amused to see all the steampunk on the playa this year, it's finally reaching critical mass.
Also curious to see how many people wear real goggles while having non-functional, decorative goggles perched on their heads/tophats.... fun!
I'm moving away from the muppet-fur stuff myself, I had a few years of being into it, but....eh, too bulky. Not sure what I'm moving TOWARDS yet, but...something. Odds and ends.
Tribe seems to be plugging along, when it's actually up/functional. I haven't seen a huge move towards one specific other place- lots of people are on Facebook, but it's annoying and not cohesive. I just follow a lot of my friends on Twitter instead/in addition to Tribe. -

Re: Whassup for 2009?
Mon, June 15, 2009 - 10:00 AMI'm still laboring onward with fur coat projects for friends, but when I get a moment, I'm making myself a steam punk outfit too. I've got a size 5X sundress in a gorgeous purple embroidered fabric that I picked up for a buck at the flea market, and a bunch of fabrics I've had in my bin for a while that just beg to be coordinated in. I'm planning a short (burlesque) bustle, a long skirt to which bustle can be added, a bustier, a waistcoat (possibly combining those) and a pill-box hat with netting. If I can ever find the time, it'll be gorgeous. It may not hit the Playa this year, though. That'll probably wind up being my "I'm depressed that it's over for another year so I think I'll beat up my sewing machine for a while and pretend I'm still out there" outfit.

Re: Whassup for 2009?
Mon, June 15, 2009 - 10:08 AMI've got a pile of fabrics and patterns that my hubby picked out for me to make for him. He really wants a desert/bedouin look, so long robes, harem pants and the like. We'll see if I ever get around to making any of them!
I bought a pair of pajamas from a thrift store with colored circles all over them. They look like a game of twister! I am in the process of sewing hot pink and lime green lace on the bottoms and cutting them off to make bloomers of sorts. I'm going to look like a circus clown. lol
I loooove the steam punk look but I doubt I'll have the time or resources to make anything like that this year. It sure is a cool look, though. There's always next year!

Re: Whassup for 2009?
Mon, June 15, 2009 - 5:16 PMTime to update your Tribe main photo, I guess... lol.
I've still got a bunch of fun fur to sew, and nothing beats it for a chilly night wandering the playa just before dawn. But then there are my fire-spinning nights, and now I'm also working on some propane flame effects, so some nights polyester fur certainly isn't appropriate, and it's always been leather for me during those times.
Tribe sure is a lot quieter these days, both the discussion threads and blog entries from my friends. But the signal-to-noise ratio has definitely improved. :-)
